Six key points of brake shoe maintenance

Brake shoes commonly known as brake pads, belong to consumables, in use will gradually wear, when wear to the limit position, must be replaced, otherwise it will reduce the effect of braking, and even cause safety accidents. Brake shoes are related to life safety and must be treated with caution.

Most cars use the front disc and back drum brake structure. In general, the front brake shoes wear relatively fast, and the rear brake shoes are used for a relatively long time. In daily inspection and maintenance, attention should be paid to the following aspects:

1. Under normal driving conditions, check the brake shoes every 5000 kilometers. It is not only necessary to check the remaining thickness, but also to check the status of shoe wear, whether the degree of wear on both sides is the same, whether the return position is free, etc., and it is necessary to deal with the abnormal situation immediately.

2. Brake shoes are generally composed of iron lining plate and friction material. Do not wait for the friction material part to be worn out before replacing the shoes. The Jetta's front brake shoes, for example, have a new thickness of 14mm and a replacement limit thickness of 7mm, including more than 3mm of iron liner thickness and nearly 4mm of friction material thickness. Some vehicles have brake shoe alarm function, once the wear limit is reached, the meter will alarm to prompt the replacement of the shoe. The shoes that reach the limit of use must be replaced, even if it can still be used for a period of time, it will reduce the effect of braking and affect the safety of driving.

3. Replace the brake pad provided by the original factory spare parts. Only in this way can the braking effect between the brake pad and the brake disc be the best and the wear is the least.

4. When replacing the shoe, special tools must be used to push the brake pump back. Can not use other crowbar hard pressure back, so easy to cause the brake caliper guide screw bending, so that the brake pad stuck.

5. After replacing the shoe, it is necessary to step on the brake several feet to eliminate the gap between the shoe and the brake disc, resulting in no brake on the first foot, which is prone to accidents.

6. After the replacement of brake shoes, it is necessary to run in 200 kilometers to achieve the best braking effect. The new shoes must be driven carefully
